Second Hunger Strike and Isolated Cell

Posted: 26th January 2016 By: Evelyne Abitbol Category: News Comment: 0

Ensaf Haidar, wife of Raif Badawi, has learned that her husband has just been transferred to an isolated cell in the Central Prison in Dhahran after undertaking a second hunger strike.

The prison authorities have refused to allow him any health care.

We urge the Red Cross and/or Doctors Without Borders, and/or any other international humanitarian organization to intervene to try and ensure that Raif Badawi immediately receives full, necessary and appropriate medical supervision and care.

The situation is critical and urgent.

We ask the European Parliament and the United Nations to intervene and call upon the Saudi authorities to recognise Raif Badawi as an International Prisoner of Conscience and to treat him accordingly and ensure that necessary medical assistance is available to him at all times.

Finally, we ask all international humanitarian and political organisations to call upon the Saudi authorities to free Raif Badawi. The imprisonment and torture of Raif Badawi as a prisoner of conscience must now end.
